An important debate concerning the landscape

The region of Bessin au virois with the help of CAUE 14 (Council for urban architecture and the environment)have been thinking about ways to identify the actions necessary to preserve and develop the landscapes. The result of this work can be seen all over the area through a touring exhibition, so that the choice of actions can be defined.

Policies concerning energy.

The region has commited itself to studying the use and potential use of renewable energy.
In the region of Bessin au Virois we have realised that there is a strong potential which is not being developped.

It has been confirmed that only about 11% of resources are exploited.
The DEPOSITS exploitable are diverse wood, waste, conbustable cereals, solar heating, diester, bioethanol, rapeseed oil, windmills, geothermal heating pumps.

The region has rapidly defined a project in the form of an economic study about the developpment of hedged farmland.
The Bessin au Virois has been named a centre of rural excellence for this project which is now in progress.

In order to build a complete political programme controlling energy consumption and renewable energy the region has made a contract with l'ADEME and the region for a programme ATEnEE (Terratorial action for the environment and energy efficiency.

The treatment and developpment of waste products.

The region is also commited in collaboration with other professional bodies in the area to a study concerning the development of organic waste.
That may result in the development of wastes such as biogas and or compost.

The restauring and maintenance of rivers

The region of Bessin au Virois is involved in a pilote study concerning the river basin (La Seulles) to restore the environment.
In fact the maintenance of the riverbanks which was formaly done by the locals is today largely neglected with the consequences of erosion, blocking and difficulty accessing the riverbanks.
This operation consists of organising the restauration work to the level of the bassin.
